Houston’s Best Pet Sitters: Cat Sitting vs Cat Boarding

I answered my phone and the caller told me he was looking for a place to board his cat. I explained that Houston’s Best Pet Sitters only does in-home cat sitting, not boarding. I asked him if he had considered this option, since cats are much happier at home. Too expensive, he said.

Now, this is the kind of conversation I love, since I’m happy to tell prospective clients that cat sitting in their home is very competitively priced, if not downright cheaper.  Even if  there’s only one cat in the home. And it’s certainly less expensive than boarding if there are multiple cats.

Then there’s the convenience factor.  No dropping off.  No rushing home from a trip, trying to get to the boarding facility before closing time.  Or worse, getting home late and having to wait until the next day to pick up your furbuddy.

I spent several years working in a vet clinic, and I know how stressful boarding is for cats.  Even in the best conditions, with the most caring staff.  One of the things I love most about cat sitting is the good feeling that comes from knowing that every cat in the care of Houston’s Best Pet Sitters is safe, comfy and secure in his or her own familiar surroundings.

Melanie-First of all, thanks for blogging. It’s been over a year & I’m glad to see how your business has grown. On the subject of In-home pet sitting, I cannot stress enough the blessing of in-home care. For those of you reading this, I moved to Houston from St. Louis with my tuxedo cat. She developed severe allergies and, as a result developed arthritis & then was shown to have feline herpes in her eyes. She was on long-term immuno-suppresants. All of this made my baby a very stressed out baby under the best of circumstnaces. Boarding her would have compounded that problem-not mention the additional costs involved in the facility being required to administer meds.

Melanie was wonderful with my baby. She came twice a day to play (when kitty felt like it) & to administer meds. Poor Melanie got the stink eye from my kitty because it seemed like Melanie was only ever there to give meds. Given all of that, my kitty received the best of care up until the day she had to be euthanized sue to ongoing complications with no resolutions available. Kudos to Miss Melanie & her staff.

I can’t wait to see how my new kitties are with the service!

I found Houston Best Pet Sitters at Angie’s List and I don’t think I will ever go back to boarding! The pet sitters who take care of my dogs, cats, and fish are excellent. They have come to know my babies, who are no longer depressed when I am come back from a long trip. I also love getting a text or photo on how they are doing because I miss them when I am away. This is a wonderful business!

Hey Mary,
Thank you so much for the compliments. We’re so glad you found us! Lynne is such a great sitter and I know that comes across to you and to your pets. We appreciate you, as well, and are happy you’re part of our “family”.

Thanks again!
